Words like "best", "number one", "guaranteed" and "15-minute response" are cheap to write and hard to prove. Rather than trusting slogans, check the things that matter.
"Fastest response"
Arrival time depends on where the nearest locksmith is, traffic and how many calls are ahead of yours. A business that gives the same number of minutes to everyone, everywhere, at every hour is guessing. Look for one that gives you a specific estimate and updates you.
"Cheapest prices"
Very low advertised prices are often a call-out fee only. Ask for the total for your specific job. A higher quote that includes everything can work out cheaper than a low one that does not.
"Guaranteed" anything
Ask what the guarantee actually covers, for how long and in writing. A warranty on parts and labour is meaningful; a vague promise of satisfaction is not.
"Trusted" and "top-rated"
Look at reviews on more than one platform and read the recent ones, especially the negative ones. Do they mention surprise charges, damage or no-shows? How did the business respond?
"Local"
Many ads that look local are routed to call centres. Ask for the business name and where they dispatch from. Check that the name on the van, invoice and website match.
What a trustworthy locksmith tells you
- A total price, or a clear range and what decides it.
- A realistic arrival estimate.
- That they will ask for ID before opening anything.
- That they will try non-destructive entry first.
- Who they are and where they are based.
How we try to do it
We quote before we start, confirm the price on site before any work, and give you an honest estimate when you call. We would rather lose a job than promise something we cannot deliver.
